Brightview Senior Living at canton

Verdant Landscape Architecture collaborated with Procon Architects and The Shelter Group to create a landscape for Brightview Senior Living at Canton that transforms a former gravel pit into a restorative, nature-centered residential environment.

Once defined by excavation and soil processing, the site is reimagined through extensive wetland replication and ecological restoration. Barren areas are replaced with layered native plantings, reestablishing meadow and wetland systems that strengthen habitat, improve stormwater performance, and reconnect the site to its natural setting.

Beyond the drive and parking areas, residents are immersed in landscape. A walking path winds through restored native grass meadows and overlooks a newly created wetland pond, offering daily opportunities for movement, reflection, and birdwatching. These views and experiences bring seasonal change and wildlife into residents’ everyday lives.

Two south-facing courtyards serve independent and assisted living residents, providing garden spaces, perennial beds, and a mix of shaded and sunlit seating areas that encourage social connection and outdoor activity. An enclosed outdoor garden offers a safe, calming environment for Alzheimer’s and memory-impaired residents, supporting comfort, orientation, and well-being.

The result is a landscape that goes beyond amenity—one that restores ecological function while enriching the daily experience of senior living through nature, light, and thoughtful design.
