Private Residence, Beverly

The landscape design for 140 Livingston Avenue is envisioned as a seamless extension of this distinctive waterfront home, thoughtfully sited on a peninsula overlooking the tidal flats of the Crane River and adjacent to Obear Park. Surrounded on three sides by water and framed by existing mature trees, the landscape is designed to celebrate expansive views to the west, south, and east while respecting coastal buffers and floodplain constraints.

Complementing the rambling farmhouse architecture by Khalsa Design, the landscape creates a welcoming and highly functional outdoor environment. A carefully choreographed arrival sequence, circular drive, and entry court establish a strong sense of place, while pathways and grading transitions guide movement throughout the site and down to the pier and dock.

Outdoor living spaces are designed for year-round enjoyment and entertaining, including a pool and poolhouse, outdoor kitchen, firepit, patios, and lawn areas that support both active and passive use. Grading, walls, and steps are sensitively integrated to create comfortable, accessible relationships between the home and its surrounding landscape.

Layered planting—ranging from ornamental and foundation plantings to buffer vegetation—enhances privacy, frames views, and reinforces the site’s natural character. The result is a resilient, coastal landscape that balances beauty and performance while creating an exceptional waterfront living experience.
