Schoolmaster, Dedham
The landscape design for 105 Schoolmaster Road is envisioned as a refined residential setting that complements the new home designed by McKay Architects while embracing the site’s natural beauty and wooded surroundings. Set along a quiet Dedham neighborhood road and extending toward expansive woodland and Route 128, the landscape balances formal arrival with relaxed outdoor living.
A gracious entry sequence facing Schoolmaster Road establishes a strong sense of arrival, anchored by a circular drive aligned with the front door and enhanced by entry walls, piers, and a central fountain feature. Walkways and special paving guide movement throughout the site, connecting the main residence, three-car garage, adjacent barn, and outdoor amenities.
The rear and side yards are designed as flexible outdoor living spaces, featuring a pool and pool house, outdoor kitchen, patios, pergola connections, usable lawn areas, and opportunities for recreation. These spaces are carefully integrated through coordinated grading, steps, and terraces to create comfortable indoor–outdoor relationships while responding to existing site conditions.
Layered planting enhances privacy, frames views, and reinforces the property’s natural character. Existing trees are preserved where feasible, supplemented by ornamental, foundation, and buffer plantings that soften transitions to adjacent woodlands and screen service areas. Planting design and site improvements are coordinated with approved wetlands conditions to ensure long-term stewardship and resilience.
Together, the landscape creates a welcoming, functional, and enduring setting—one that supports everyday living, entertaining, and a strong connection to Dedham’s natural environment.
