680 Washington Street, Brighton
Phase 1 – Church Building Redevelopment
Phase One reimagines the existing church as a 33-unit multifamily residence, balancing adaptive reuse with a thoughtful landscape strategy that respects the site’s historic character while introducing contemporary outdoor amenities. The primary street-facing façade of the church is preserved, reinforcing its civic presence, while new landscape interventions support both functionality and long-term flexibility for future phases.
A Reconfigured Arrival Experience
The existing driveway is removed and replaced with a centrally located site drive designed to serve both current and future phases.
Accessible and Integrated Entry
The accessible entry is relocated to the elevated east side of the building, significantly reducing ramp length and visual impact. The approach is carefully integrated into the topography and planting design to create a dignified, welcoming arrival.
Street Presence and Historic Character
New street trees—including oak species—are introduced to reinforce the historic landscape character of the corridor. Existing slopes along the street edge are preserved, maintaining the site’s established relationship to the public realm.
Shared Outdoor Living
The landscape design incorporates a shared outdoor patio and/or rooftop amenity space, offering residents places to gather, relax, and connect. These communal spaces are designed to feel intentional and elevated, complementing private porches and penthouse decks provided by the architectural design.
