841Morton Street

Verdant Landscape Architecture is collaborating with Stefanov Architects to transform a former gas station site into a vibrant five-story mixed-use development featuring 52 multifamily residences, and a shared roof deck. The landscape design plays a critical role in reimagining the site—turning an underutilized parcel into an active, welcoming part of the neighborhood.

At the heart of the project is the Green Link, a thoughtfully designed ramp system that navigates approximately nine feet of grade change, creating a fully accessible connection between Flint Street and Morton Street. This new pedestrian route significantly reduces walking time to Walker Playground, encouraging greater daily use by residents and the surrounding community.

The Green Link is designed to promote porosity, activation, and safety. Generous lighting ensures comfort at all hours, while an amenity zone wraps the building along the link, offering seating, gathering areas, and opportunities for informal social interaction. Integrated Public Art component placeholders on both sides of the Green Link position art as a central element of the public experience, celebrating creativity and cultural expression.

A strategically located Pocket Plaza at the corner of Flint and Norfolk anchors the public realm, providing a flexible gathering space that encourages social interaction. The plaza incorporates a variety of seating types to support multiple uses and invite people to linger, engage, and connect—strengthening the social fabric of the neighborhood.
